Bangladeshi passenger intercepted at Delhi airport

New Delhi: A Bangladeshi national was arrested at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport after authorities allegedly caught him carrying gold concealed inside his undergarments.

According to officials, the passenger had arrived at Terminal 3 from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and was scheduled to continue his journey to Dhaka. He was intercepted in the international transit area before he could board his onward flight.

Gold hidden in chemical-paste capsules

During an intensive check, Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel allegedly found three brownish-white, oval-shaped capsules concealed inside the passenger's undergarments.

Officials said the capsules contained material suspected to be gold in chemical-paste form.

The total weight of the recovered material, including packing, was approximately 1,596 grams. After assessment, customs officials said 1,346 grams of gold was seized under Section 110 of the Customs Act, 1962.

Passenger allegedly admitted to smuggling

According to the official account, the passenger admitted to bringing the gold from Jeddah to Delhi.

Investigators were also told that he had allegedly been instructed to hand over the gold to another person somewhere in the airport's transit area.

Authorities have not publicly identified the alleged recipient or disclosed whether anyone else has been arrested in connection with the case.

Arrest under Customs Act

Following the seizure, the passenger was arrested under Section 104 of the Customs Act, 1962, officials said.

The gold was seized under Section 110 of the same law as authorities proceeded with the investigation.

The case highlights the continued use of concealment methods by suspected gold-smuggling networks, including attempts to hide precious metals in clothing or convert them into paste to make detection more difficult.

Investigation underway

The investigation is expected to focus on the origin of the gold, the intended recipient in Delhi and whether the passenger was acting alone or as part of a wider smuggling network.

At present, officials have not publicly disclosed the passenger's identity, the estimated market value of the seized gold or details of any further arrests.

The passenger remains an accused in a customs case and the allegations will be subject to the legal process.
