CJP Plans Expansion Across Northeast
Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka said the organisation plans to reach out to all Northeastern states as it seeks to expand its presence in the region.
Ranka said the response to the organisation's activities had been positive so far and described the Northeast as an important area for CJP's expansion.
Focus on Students and Youth
According to Ranka, CJP intends to focus on issues affecting students and young people across the Northeast.
He said the organisation wants to provide young people with a platform to raise concerns and discuss issues that affect their education, employment and future opportunities.
Indigenous Rights Among Key Issues
Ranka also said CJP would highlight issues concerning indigenous communities.
Among the issues he mentioned were the rights of indigenous people in Kaziranga and other concerns affecting local communities in Assam.
The organisation plans to take these issues into account as it expands its activities across the region.
Man-Made Floods Also on CJP's Agenda
CJP plans to raise concerns over what Ranka described as man-made floods.
Flooding and its impact on communities are among the issues the organisation intends to highlight as part of its activities in Assam and other Northeastern states.
Ranka and CJP Members Detained in Assam
Ranka's comments came a day after Assam Police detained him and more than 40 CJP members for around 10 hours.
The detention took place ahead of a CJP volunteers' meet-up in Guwahati.
The group was reportedly picked up from Chowdhury Tila, opposite the Assam state secretariat at Dispur, at the residence of Assam Jatiya Parishad leader Kunki Chowdhury. They were released later the same day.
Ranka Calls Police Action Illegal
Ranka described the police action as "completely illegal" and said the members were detained without being given a specific reason.
He alleged that police officials told them they had received orders from higher authorities.
These statements are Ranka's allegations regarding the detention.
CJP Says It Will Continue Its Activities
Despite the detention, Ranka said CJP would continue raising issues concerning students and youth.
The organisation also intends to continue campaigning on indigenous rights and flooding-related concerns.
CJP's wider political activities have included campaigns related to education, employment and institutional accountability.
Upcoming Protest Against CEC
Ranka also said that CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke was preparing for an October 2 protest concerning Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
He said Dipke had initially planned to visit Assam following Ranka's detention, but the visit was no longer required after Ranka and the other members were released.
CJP's Broader Political Focus
In an earlier interview, Ranka said CJP wanted to change how politics is conducted in India.
He identified education, unemployment, judicial reforms, the integrity of the Election Commission and the mainstream media among areas the organisation intended to address.
