'Achche Din' Keep Wrecking Common Man's Budget: Congress Slams Modi Government

New Delhi: The Congress has launched a fresh attack on the Narendra Modi government, alleging that the promise of "achche din" has instead left ordinary citizens struggling to manage their household budgets.

The Opposition party accused the government of failing to adequately address the economic pressures faced by common people, particularly rising household expenses and the cost of essential goods and services.

The Congress has repeatedly made the cost of living a central part of its criticism of the Centre, arguing that economic growth figures do not necessarily reflect the financial reality faced by households.

According to the party, families are having to carefully manage their spending as expenses related to food, education, healthcare, transportation and other essential requirements continue to put pressure on household finances.

The latest criticism also reflects the broader political debate over inflation and the purchasing power of consumers. While the government has highlighted India's economic growth and development achievements, the Opposition has sought to focus attention on household-level economic concerns.

Congress leaders have argued that the benefits of economic growth should be reflected more clearly in the daily lives of ordinary citizens. They have also called for policies that can strengthen household incomes and reduce the burden of essential expenses.

The BJP-led government has consistently defended its economic record, pointing to infrastructure development, employment initiatives, welfare programmes and measures aimed at supporting vulnerable sections of society.

The political exchange comes amid continued debate over India's economic priorities. The government has placed considerable emphasis on investment, manufacturing, digital infrastructure and economic expansion, while Opposition parties have stressed the importance of employment, wages and household purchasing power.

For consumers, however, the cost of everyday necessities remains a key concern. Changes in prices can have a direct impact on family budgets, particularly for households with limited disposable income.

The Congress is expected to continue raising economic issues as part of its political campaign, particularly those affecting middle-class and lower-income households.

The latest remarks are also part of a broader political contest over the government's economic narrative. While the Centre highlights India's position as one of the world's fastest-growing major economies, the Opposition continues to question whether that growth is translating into meaningful improvements in living standards.

The debate over "achche din" is therefore likely to remain politically relevant as parties seek to connect national economic indicators with the everyday experiences of voters.
