Missing Delhi Man Found Dead in Gurugram, Was Shot by Ex-Colleague and Her Partner

A missing-person case involving a 31-year-old Delhi man has turned into a murder investigation after police arrested his former colleague and her husband in connection with his death.

Yuvraj Singh Manchanda, a resident of Sarita Vihar and an employee of a prominent real estate company, went missing on September 6 after telling his family that he had to travel to Gurugram for a meeting. His decomposed body was recovered from a drain in Gurugram four days later, police said.

Delhi Police subsequently arrested Anya Vats, Yuvraj's former colleague, and her husband Sanyam Sachdeva from Uttarakhand. Investigators allege that the two killed Yuvraj and disposed of his body in a drain near their residence in Gurugram.

Yuvraj left restaurant for Gurugram meeting

According to police and the victim's family, Yuvraj was shopping with his sisters in Lajpat Nagar on September 6. The family later stopped at the Golden Dragon restaurant in Lajpat Nagar-II.

Yuvraj reportedly told his sisters that he had an urgent meeting with his former colleague in Gurugram and left the restaurant. His family spoke to him around 7 pm, when he said he expected to return home by about 10 pm.

When he did not return, his family tried contacting him. His sister eventually filed a missing-person complaint at Lajpat Nagar police station on September 11.

Police trace former colleague

During the investigation, officers examined CCTV footage, technical data, phone records and other leads to reconstruct Yuvraj's movements.

Investigators reportedly found that Yuvraj had been in contact with his former colleague Anya Vats, who became a key suspect after her phone was switched off.

Police subsequently traced a new mobile number allegedly being used by Vats and followed the trail to Uttarakhand, where she and Sanyam Sachdeva were arrested.

Police allege Yuvraj was shot inside a car

According to The Indian Express, police alleged that Yuvraj was shot inside a car by Vats and her husband.

After the alleged killing, the accused reportedly disposed of his body in a drain near their residence in Gurugram. During questioning, the two allegedly disclosed their involvement, police said.

Police are continuing to investigate the exact sequence of events, including the weapon used, the circumstances surrounding the meeting and the disposal of the body.

Suspected financial dispute

Investigators are reportedly examining a financial dispute as a possible motive for the alleged murder.

According to NDTV, police suspect that a financial disagreement may have led to the killing. However, the investigation is still underway, and police have not publicly established a final motive. Yuvraj's family has also raised questions about the circumstances of the crime and has sought preservation of key evidence.

Body recovered from Gurugram drain

Gurugram Police recovered a decomposed body from a sewer/drain in Sector 70 on September 10.

The body was initially treated as unidentified and was cremated on September 14 after an autopsy, according to Hindustan Times. Yuvraj's family later learned about the recovery through details uploaded on the ZIPNET system and identified him with the help of photographs and belongings.

The circumstances surrounding the handling and identification of the body have also become part of the family's concerns. NDTV reported that the family has sought preservation and access to documents and evidence, including the post-mortem report, photographs and DNA samples.

Two accused sent to police custody

Anya Vats and Sanyam Sachdeva were arrested in Uttarakhand and brought into the investigation.

Both accused have been sent to five-day police custody, according to reports. Investigators are questioning them to establish the motive, sequence of events and other possible evidence connected with the case.

The allegations against the accused remain subject to the ongoing investigation and judicial proceedings.
