‘PDA Victory Laid Foundation for Change’: Dimple Yadav Claims SP Won 5 UP MLC Seats, Predicts 2027 Win

Dimple Yadav Calls SP’s MLC Performance a Foundation for Change

Samajwadi Party (SP) MP Dimple Yadav on Thursday, October 29, 2026, described the party’s performance in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council elections as the beginning of a new phase in state politics.

In a post on X, Dimple said the victory of five SP candidates had laid the foundation for political change in Uttar Pradesh. She attributed the outcome to growing support for the party’s PDA alliance, which stands for Pichhda, Dalit, Alpsankhyak—backward classes, Dalits and minorities.

Her remarks came after the SP won five of the 11 seats contested in the MLC elections, while the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured six seats.

Dimple Predicts SP Victory in 2027 Assembly Elections

Dimple Yadav expressed confidence that the MLC results would strengthen the SP’s prospects in the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.

She said the party’s performance reflected the confidence of disadvantaged communities and young voters in the SP. She also argued that the results had created momentum for the party’s campaign to form a full-majority government in the state.

Her prediction is a political claim made by the SP leader. The MLC results may provide the party with encouragement, but the outcome of the 2027 Assembly elections will depend on a wider range of political and electoral factors.

What Is the PDA Alliance?

The PDA slogan is central to the Samajwadi Party’s political strategy under party president Akhilesh Yadav.

The abbreviation refers to Pichhda, Dalit and Alpsankhyak communities. The SP has sought to build a broader social coalition by appealing to backward classes, Dalits, minorities and other sections of society.

Dimple Yadav said the latest election results demonstrated the strength of this coalition and suggested that the party’s approach was gaining traction.

The BJP and SP, however, continue to offer competing assessments of their support among different communities and voter groups. The MLC results alone do not establish how these voting patterns will translate into the next Assembly election.

SP Wins Five Seats, BJP Secures Six

The Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council elections covered 11 constituencies, comprising six Teachers’ and five Graduates’ seats.

The BJP finished with six seats, while the SP secured five. The results represented a closely fought contest between the two parties.

The SP registered victories in several important constituencies, including Varanasi Teachers’, Agra-Aligarh Teachers’, Allahabad-Jhansi Graduates’ and Lucknow Graduates’. The BJP retained key constituencies, including Bareilly-Moradabad Teachers’ and the Lucknow Teachers’ seat.

The results also included a closely contested race in the Gorakhpur-Faizabad Teachers’ constituency, where independent candidate Dhruv Tripathi retained his seat.

Varanasi Victory Gives SP a Political Boost

One of the most prominent outcomes was the SP’s victory in Varanasi, the parliamentary constituency represented by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

SP candidate Lal Bihari Yadav retained the Varanasi Teachers’ seat, defeating the BJP candidate by 4,898 votes.

The party also secured a victory in the Varanasi Graduates’ constituency, where Ashutosh Sinha established a decisive lead during preferential-vote counting.

The victories gave the SP an opportunity to highlight its performance in a politically significant region. However, the Legislative Council contests involve a different electorate and voting structure from Assembly elections, so the results should not automatically be treated as a prediction of future outcomes.

SP Scores Important Wins in Agra and Allahabad-Jhansi

The SP also recorded notable victories in other constituencies.

In the Agra-Aligarh Teachers’ constituency, SP candidate Akash Agrawal defeated BJP candidate Hari Kishore Tiwari by 4,263 votes.

In the Allahabad-Jhansi Graduates’ constituency, Maan Singh Yadav defeated BJP candidate Ashok Kumar Rathaur by 27,663 votes.

Kanti Singh also won the Lucknow Graduates’ constituency for the SP, defeating BJP candidate Avnish Kumar Singh by 17,225 votes.

These victories helped the SP reach five seats in the 11-seat contest and provided the party with several results to highlight ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.

Akhilesh Yadav Raises Questions Over Counting

SP president Akhilesh Yadav had raised concerns about delays in the counting process during the elections.

He urged Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar to take cognisance of the alleged delays and ensure transparency in the declaration of results.

Akhilesh also asked party workers to remain at counting centres until they received their victory certificates. He appealed to supporters to publicise the results peacefully and avoid confrontations.

The allegations concerning counting procedures represent the SP’s position during the election dispute. They should be distinguished from any independently established finding of electoral malpractice.

Congress Leader Ajay Rai Also Targets BJP

Congress leader Ajay Rai also reacted to the MLC election results, claiming that the BJP was under pressure following the outcome.

Rai pointed out that Congress had not contested the Uttar Pradesh MLC elections and argued that the BJP’s performance should be assessed in that context.

He also expressed confidence about his own political prospects in the Pindra constituency of Varanasi district ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.

His comments added another dimension to the political reactions surrounding the results, although the contest itself was primarily between the BJP and SP candidates.

What Do the Results Mean for Uttar Pradesh Politics?

The MLC results give both the BJP and SP political talking points ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.

For the SP, winning five seats—including victories in Varanasi and other important constituencies—offers an opportunity to present the results as evidence of organisational strength and support for the PDA strategy.

For the BJP, winning six seats means it finished ahead of the SP in the overall contest and retained several important constituencies.

The election therefore reflects a competitive political environment rather than a definitive verdict on the next Assembly election. The parties will need to build on their respective performances, strengthen local organisations and address constituency-specific concerns before the 2027 polls.

Key Takeaways

  • Dimple Yadav described the SP’s MLC performance as the foundation for political change in Uttar Pradesh.

  • She claimed the victory of five SP candidates reflected growing support for the PDA alliance.

  • Dimple predicted that the SP would form a full-majority government after the 2027 Assembly elections.

  • The SP won five of the 11 MLC seats, while the BJP secured six.

  • The SP registered important victories in Varanasi, Agra-Aligarh, Allahabad-Jhansi and Lucknow.

  • SP president Akhilesh Yadav raised concerns about delays in counting and called for transparency.

  • Congress leader Ajay Rai also criticised the BJP following the results.

  • The MLC outcome gives the SP political momentum, but it does not determine the result of the 2027 Assembly elections.

Bottom Line

Dimple Yadav has projected the Samajwadi Party’s five-seat victory in the Uttar Pradesh MLC elections as a sign of growing support for its PDA alliance and a foundation for political change. Her prediction of an SP majority in 2027 sets the tone for the party’s next electoral campaign. However, with the BJP winning six of the 11 seats, the results show that the political contest in Uttar Pradesh remains competitive ahead of the Assembly elections.
