Mumbai: A film workers' body has called for an FIR to be registered against filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali and demanded compensation of ₹1 crore for the family of a worker who died following an alleged accident on the set of Love & War.
The demand comes after the worker reportedly sustained serious injuries while working on the film's set. The incident has sparked fresh debate over workplace safety practices in the entertainment industry, with labor representatives urging authorities to investigate whether adequate precautions were in place at the time of the accident.
According to the workers' organization, responsibility must be fixed if negligence is found during the investigation. The body has urged law enforcement agencies to register a First Information Report (FIR) and conduct a detailed probe into the circumstances surrounding the worker's death.
Representatives of the association have also sought financial assistance for the deceased worker's family, arguing that compensation of ₹1 crore would provide crucial support to dependents affected by the tragedy. They have further called for stronger enforcement of safety regulations across film and television productions.
The incident has drawn attention from industry circles, with several workers' groups highlighting the risks often faced by technicians, laborers and crew members involved in large-scale productions. They have emphasized the need for strict compliance with safety protocols, especially on elaborate sets involving construction, heavy equipment and complex filming arrangements.
Neither Bhansali nor the makers of Love & War had issued a detailed public response immediately following the demand for legal action. Industry sources indicated that the production team was cooperating with relevant authorities as inquiries into the incident continued.
Love & War is among the most anticipated Bollywood projects currently in production and features a high-profile cast. The film has generated significant interest among audiences, making the reported accident and its aftermath a matter of considerable public attention.
Legal experts note that the registration of an FIR does not establish guilt but enables authorities to formally investigate allegations and gather evidence. Any decision regarding criminal liability would ultimately depend on the findings of the investigation and subsequent legal proceedings.
The tragedy has once again put the spotlight on occupational safety in India's entertainment sector. Workers' unions have renewed calls for mandatory audits, insurance coverage and stricter monitoring mechanisms to protect crew members employed on film sets.
As authorities examine the circumstances surrounding the incident, the focus remains on determining whether safety norms were followed and ensuring appropriate support for the family of the deceased worker.
