Haiwaan has crossed the ₹5 crore mark at the Indian box office after completing two days in theatres. The crime thriller, directed by Priyadarshan, stars Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan in the lead roles and marks their return to the big screen together after 17 years.
Haiwaan Day 2 collection
According to the latest figures cited by Hindustan Times from trade tracker Sacnilk, Haiwaan earned around ₹2.11 crore net in India on its second day. With an opening-day collection of ₹3 crore, the film's total domestic net collection stands at approximately ₹5.11 crore after two days.
The film recorded an overall occupancy of around 12.77% on Saturday, with its highest occupancy of about 16% during the evening shows. Despite the weekend, the Day 2 figure did not show a significant jump over the opening day.
Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan reunite after 17 years
The film has generated interest because of the reunion of Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan, who have previously appeared together in films including Main Khiladi Tu Anari, Aarzoo, Tu Chor Main Sipahi, Keemat and Tashan.
In Haiwaan, Saif plays a blind man, while Akshay portrays a killer. The psychological thriller also features Boman Irani, Shriya Pilgaonkar, Saiyami Kher, Rajpal Yadav, Sharib Hashmi, Rajesh Sharma, Manoj Joshi and Jisshu Sengupta. Mohanlal makes a cameo, while the film also marks the final screen appearance of late actor Asrani.
Competition remains a challenge
Haiwaan is facing strong competition from films already performing well at the box office, particularly Mirzapur: The Movie, which is in its second week. The crowded theatrical market could make it difficult for the Akshay-Saif starrer to achieve a major jump unless weekend footfalls improve.
The film is a Hindi remake of Priyadarshan's 2016 Malayalam thriller Oppam. The original starred Mohanlal in the lead role.
With Sunday still to come, the key question now is whether Haiwaan can substantially improve its occupancy and add momentum to its first weekend. A strong Sunday could help the film strengthen its opening-weekend total.
