JNU's Neha Bora continues hunger strike after Wangchuk moved away, alleges police crackdown

Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) student leader Neha Bora has vowed to continue her indefinite hunger strike despite the removal of climate activist Sonam Wangchuk from the protest site, alleging that Delhi Police launched a crackdown on demonstrators in an attempt to weaken the ongoing agitation.

Bora, who has emerged as one of the prominent faces of the protest, said the movement would continue until its core demands are addressed. She claimed that police detained several protesters, restricted access to the protest venue and tried to disrupt peaceful demonstrations after Wangchuk was moved for medical care.

Protest continues despite Wangchuk's removal

The hunger strike was initially led by Sonam Wangchuk, whose indefinite fast drew widespread attention from political leaders, activists and civil society groups. Following concerns over his health, Wangchuk was shifted away from the protest site for medical supervision.

However, Bora said the protest had never been about one individual alone and insisted that participants would continue their agitation despite Wangchuk's absence.

"The movement will not end because one person has been taken away. We are here to ensure our voices continue to be heard," Bora said while addressing supporters.

Bora accused Delhi Police of detaining student activists and volunteers during the protest, alleging that authorities attempted to discourage participation through heightened security measures.

According to protesters, barricades were erected around the demonstration site, while several supporters claimed they were prevented from joining the gathering.
