'You cannot arm-twist government': Kangana Ranaut slams Opposition for creating ruckus in Parliament

BJP MP and actor Kangana Ranaut has launched a sharp attack on Opposition parties over repeated disruptions in Parliament, saying that creating a ruckus inside the House cannot be used as a means to "arm-twist" the government.

Speaking to reporters during the ongoing Monsoon Session of Parliament, Ranaut said democratic institutions function through debate and discussion, not by obstructing legislative proceedings.

"You cannot arm-twist the government," she said, accusing Opposition members of repeatedly disrupting the functioning of Parliament instead of participating in constructive discussions.

Criticism over repeated disruptions

Ranaut's remarks came as both Houses of Parliament witnessed noisy scenes, adjournments and protests over various political issues raised by Opposition parties.

The BJP MP argued that Parliament is meant for meaningful debate and that elected representatives should utilise the forum to discuss issues affecting the public rather than resorting to repeated disruptions.

She maintained that disagreements should be addressed through democratic procedures instead of preventing the House from conducting business.

Opposition presses for debate

Opposition parties have defended their protests, arguing that they are seeking discussions on issues they consider to be of national importance.

Leaders from several Opposition parties have alleged that the government has not allowed adequate debate on key matters, prompting them to intensify protests inside Parliament.

The ongoing standoff has resulted in multiple adjournments, affecting the legislative agenda during the current session.

Political sparring continues

Kangana Ranaut has frequently been vocal on political issues since entering electoral politics and has often criticised Opposition leaders over their parliamentary strategy.

Her latest comments add to the war of words between the ruling BJP and Opposition parties, with both sides accusing each other of undermining parliamentary functioning.

Monsoon Session remains disrupted

The Monsoon Session has witnessed repeated interruptions over contentious political issues, with both the government and the Opposition standing firm on their respective positions.

As the deadlock continues, parliamentary business is expected to remain under pressure unless a consensus is reached to resume normal proceedings.
