Lakshya Sen Storms into Hylo Open Final After Defeating France's Toma Jr Popov

Indian badminton player Lakshya Sen secured a place in the men's singles final of the Hylo Open after defeating France's Toma Jr Popov in the semifinal at Saarbrücken, Germany, on Saturday, October 31, 2026.

The World No. 14 registered a convincing 21-17, 21-13 victory over Popov, who is ranked 13th in the world. Sen delivered an aggressive attacking performance, using powerful jump smashes and fast-paced shots to put pressure on his French opponent.

Standing at 6 feet 5 inches, Popov is known for his long reach and ability to dominate fast, flat exchanges. However, Sen successfully countered these strengths by maintaining attacking intensity and controlling the rallies.

The victory earned Sen his second final appearance of the 2026 season. His other major final this year came at the All England Open, making the Hylo Open another significant opportunity to finish the season strongly.

Sen's performances at major tournaments have once again demonstrated his ability to challenge top-level opponents. However, his consistency has remained a concern, with his injury-prone back continuing to influence his performances.

With this semifinal victory, Sen will now look to carry his momentum into the Hylo Open final as he aims to add another title to his season.
