Lock Upp 2: Shivangi Joshi's Team Clarifies ‘Bread and Butter’ Story, Addresses Questions Over Father's Profession and Family Home

Mumbai: Actor Shivangi Joshi's team has responded to growing online speculation following her emotional confession on Lock Upp 2, where she revealed that her family once struggled financially to the extent that relatives helped them with "bread and butter."

The revelation quickly went viral, with viewers comparing it to older interviews and videos in which Shivangi had spoken about her father's profession and her upbringing. The comparisons led to questions on social media about whether there were contradictions in her account.

Addressing the controversy, Shivangi's team clarified that there was no contradiction in the actor's statements. According to the clarification, her father had served in the Indian Army before taking voluntary retirement. He later ventured into business, which reportedly suffered heavy losses, pushing the family into severe financial hardship for a period.

The team said Shivangi's remarks on the reality show referred specifically to that difficult phase, during which relatives extended financial and emotional support. They maintained that the actor's "bread and butter" comment reflected the family's struggle at the time and was not inconsistent with her earlier statements about her father's career.

The clarification also addressed questions surrounding the family's residence. The team explained that the comfortable homes associated with Shivangi today—including her Mumbai residence and family home in Dehradun—were acquired after years of hard work and professional success, and do not reflect the financial difficulties the family experienced in the past.

The issue gained traction after clips from older interviews resurfaced online, with some users questioning whether Shivangi's father had been an Army officer, a businessman or worked elsewhere. Her team reiterated that the different descriptions relate to different stages of his career rather than conflicting versions of events.

The clarification has drawn mixed reactions online. While many fans defended Shivangi, saying people's financial circumstances can change dramatically over time, others continued to debate the details of her account. Much of the discussion has unfolded across social media platforms and fan forums.

Shivangi, who is currently among the contestants on Lock Upp 2, has been one of the most talked-about participants this season, with several of her personal revelations generating widespread attention. The actor herself has not issued any additional statement beyond her team's clarification.
