Seven Equity Mutual Funds Cross Rs 80,000 Crore AUM
The Indian mutual fund industry continues to see strong investor participation, with several individual schemes accumulating very large asset bases.
As of August 30, 2026, seven equity mutual funds had AUM of more than Rs 80,000 crore. Four of these schemes had crossed the Rs 1 lakh crore milestone, highlighting the scale achieved by some of India's largest mutual fund schemes.
The list includes funds across categories such as flexi cap, mid cap, large cap, small cap and hybrid funds.
Parag Parikh Flexi Cap Fund Leads the List
Parag Parikh Flexi Cap Fund remained at the top of the list with an AUM of Rs 1.47 lakh crore as of August 30, 2026.
The fund's AUM was slightly lower than the Rs 1.48 lakh crore recorded in the previous month. Despite the marginal decline, it remained the largest active fund and the largest flexi-cap fund by assets managed.
Its position reflects the significant asset base accumulated by the scheme over the years and the continued interest in flexi-cap funds among investors.
Four Funds Cross Rs 1 Lakh Crore
Four of the seven funds had AUM above Rs 1 lakh crore as of August 30.
The four schemes were:

These four schemes formed the top tier of the AUM ranking.
HDFC Mutual Fund Has Three Schemes in the List
HDFC Mutual Fund had a particularly strong presence in the ranking, with three schemes among the seven funds with AUM above Rs 80,000 crore.
HDFC Flexi Cap Fund had AUM of Rs 1.13 lakh crore, while HDFC Mid Cap Fund managed Rs 1.08 lakh crore. HDFC Balanced Advantage Fund had an AUM of Rs 1.07 lakh crore.
This means all three HDFC schemes crossed the Rs 1 lakh crore threshold.
SBI Aggressive Hybrid Fund
SBI Aggressive Hybrid Fund was another large scheme on the list, with AUM of Rs 88,667 crore as of August 30, 2026.
The scheme's AUM increased from Rs 88,035 crore in July, according to the ETMarkets analysis.
Unlike the other major schemes in the top portion of the list, SBI Aggressive Hybrid Fund belongs to the hybrid-fund category rather than being a pure equity scheme.
Nippon India Small Cap Fund
Nippon India Small Cap Fund had an AUM of Rs 82,580 crore as of August 30, 2026.
The fund's AUM increased significantly from Rs 78,956 crore in July. It is also the largest small-cap fund by assets managed in the analysis.
The rise comes at a time when small-cap mutual funds continue to attract strong investor interest. In August 2026, small-cap mutual funds received net inflows of Rs 7,973 crore, according to industry data.
ICICI Prudential Large Cap Fund
ICICI Prudential Large Cap Fund was the seventh scheme in the list, with AUM of Rs 80,206 crore as of August 30, 2026.
Its AUM was slightly lower than the Rs 80,960 crore recorded in July. Despite the decline, the scheme remained above the Rs 80,000 crore threshold.
Large-cap funds, however, have faced relatively weaker flows compared with mid-cap and small-cap categories in recent months.

Why Is AUM Important for Mutual Fund Investors?
Assets under management indicate the total value of assets managed by a mutual fund scheme.
A high AUM can indicate that a fund has attracted substantial investor interest and has built a large investor base. However, AUM alone should not be treated as a measure of investment quality.
A large fund can still underperform its benchmark or peers. Investors should also consider long-term returns, risk-adjusted performance, portfolio composition, expense ratio, investment strategy and consistency.
Strong Mutual Fund Flows Support Large Schemes
The rise in large mutual fund AUM comes against the backdrop of strong overall investor participation.
Equity mutual fund inflows increased to around Rs 29,329 crore in August 2026, while SIP contributions reached a record Rs 32,297 crore. SIP accounts also crossed the 10 crore mark.
Small-cap and mid-cap funds were among the strongest beneficiaries, with investors continuing to use mutual funds as a long-term investment route.
Does a Higher AUM Mean a Fund Is Better?
Not necessarily.
A high AUM primarily indicates the size of the assets managed by a scheme. It does not guarantee higher future returns.
Investors should avoid selecting mutual funds only because they have crossed a particular AUM milestone. The fund's investment objective, portfolio diversification, historical performance, risk level, costs and suitability for the investor's financial goals should also be examined.
What Should Investors Check Before Investing?
Before investing in a large mutual fund scheme, investors should consider:
Long-term performance rather than short-term returns
Performance against the appropriate benchmark
Risk-adjusted returns
Portfolio concentration and diversification
Expense ratio
Fund manager and investment strategy
Investment time horizon
Overall asset allocation
Individual financial goals and risk tolerance
A large AUM can be an interesting data point, but it should not be the sole reason for choosing a mutual fund.
Bottom Line
Seven mutual fund schemes had AUM above Rs 80,000 crore as of August 30, 2026, with Parag Parikh Flexi Cap Fund leading the list at Rs 1.47 lakh crore.
HDFC Flexi Cap Fund, HDFC Mid Cap Fund and HDFC Balanced Advantage Fund also crossed the Rs 1 lakh crore mark. SBI Aggressive Hybrid Fund, Nippon India Small Cap Fund and ICICI Prudential Large Cap Fund completed the list of seven schemes.
The figures demonstrate the enormous scale of India's largest mutual fund schemes. However, investors should remember that AUM is only one measure of a fund's size and popularity. Investment decisions should be based on a broader assessment of returns, risk, portfolio quality, costs and personal financial objectives.
