'No need for storm': PM Modi's big message ahead of Parliament Monsoon Session

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday appealed to lawmakers across the political spectrum to ensure the smooth functioning of Parliament, urging them to avoid disruptions as the Monsoon Session got underway.

Speaking to the media before the session commenced, Modi said there was "no need for storm" inside Parliament and stressed that discussions and debates should take precedence over protests and repeated adjournments.

His remarks come at a time when the Opposition has signalled an aggressive strategy to corner the government on several issues, including the recent protests over climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, delimitation, inflation and unemployment.

'Parliament should become a platform for meaningful debate'

The Prime Minister said Parliament represents the aspirations of the people and should be used to deliberate on issues of national importance.

He urged MPs from both the treasury and Opposition benches to engage in healthy discussions and ensure that legislative business proceeds without unnecessary interruptions.

According to Modi, democracy is strengthened through dialogue, and Parliament should reflect that spirit during the Monsoon Session.

Government hopes for productive session

The Centre is expected to table several Bills and legislative proposals during the session, making uninterrupted proceedings crucial for the government's legislative agenda.

Senior ministers have repeatedly expressed hope that Parliament will function smoothly, allowing members to debate key policies and pass pending legislation.

Opposition prepares to press key issues

Opposition parties have already indicated that they will seek discussions on a range of issues, including the handling of protests in Delhi, the proposed delimitation exercise, economic concerns and other matters they believe require the government's response.

Leaders from the INDIA bloc have also accused the Centre of avoiding detailed discussions on sensitive political issues, setting the stage for potentially heated exchanges in both Houses.

Focus on cooperation

Despite the likelihood of political confrontation, Modi urged all parties to prioritise the interests of the nation over partisan politics.

He reiterated that differences of opinion are natural in a democracy but should be expressed through debate rather than disruption.

With both the government and the Opposition entering the session with competing priorities, the coming weeks are expected to witness intense political discussions as Parliament takes up key legislative and policy matters.
