New Delhi: The Rajya Sabha is set to take up the Taxation Laws Bill and the Bankers' Books Bill on Monday as part of the legislative business listed for the ongoing Monsoon Session of Parliament.
According to the revised agenda issued for the Upper House, members will discuss and consider the proposed legislations, which are aimed at updating legal provisions relating to taxation and banking records.
The Taxation Laws Bill seeks to introduce changes to the existing taxation framework in line with the government's policy objectives. The proposed legislation is expected to address specific legal and administrative aspects of tax laws, although detailed deliberations are likely to take place during the parliamentary debate.
The Bankers' Books Bill aims to modernise provisions governing banking records and documentation. The proposed changes are intended to align the legal framework with evolving banking practices and technological advancements in the financial sector.
The bills are expected to be taken up amid continued political exchanges between the treasury benches and the Opposition, with several contentious issues having disrupted proceedings during the current session.
Government leaders have urged all parties to cooperate in ensuring the smooth functioning of Parliament so that key legislative business can be completed. The Opposition, meanwhile, has continued to demand discussions on various political and public interest issues before allowing normal proceedings to continue.
The Monsoon Session has witnessed repeated disruptions in both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha over a range of issues, including law and order, governance and parliamentary procedure.
Despite the ongoing political differences, the government remains focused on advancing its legislative agenda, with the Taxation Laws Bill and the Bankers' Books Bill among the important items scheduled for consideration in the Upper House on Monday.
