London: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat addressed a community gathering in the United Kingdom as part of his ongoing international engagements during the organisation's centenary year, focusing on humanity, social harmony, unity in diversity and shared values.

Bhagwat's London visit forms part of the RSS's centenary programme, which has included engagements with community leaders, academics, faith representatives and members of the Indian diaspora. The RSS said the programme is aimed at promoting dialogue around social cohesion, service and civilisational values.

Bhagwat Emphasises Humanity and Selfless Love

Speaking at the "Celebration of Oneness" event in London on September 6, Bhagwat highlighted the importance of Apnapan, or a sense of belonging, describing pure and selfless love for individuals, communities and humanity as a central principle.

According to the RSS, Bhagwat said the organisation's century-long journey had been sustained by this principle and linked it to the traditional idea of serving society and strengthening social bonds.

The RSS chief's remarks placed particular emphasis on the idea that society should focus on common values rather than differences. His message comes amid the organisation's broader centenary outreach programme in several countries.

'Unity Does Not Mean Uniformity'

A major theme of Bhagwat's London address was the relationship between unity and diversity.

Bhagwat stressed that unity does not require uniformity, pointing to India's long tradition of accommodating different religious paths, philosophical schools, customs and cultural practices. He argued that social cohesion can develop through mutual respect and an acceptance of diversity.

The message echoed the RSS's stated centenary focus on social harmony and unity in diversity, while also emphasising the concept of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam — the idea that the world is one family.

RSS Centenary Outreach in the UK

Bhagwat's London visit from September 2 to 7, 2026, is part of a wider overseas engagement programme marking 100 years of the RSS. Before arriving in Britain, he travelled to the United States and Canada, where he participated in discussions with community and faith leaders.

In London, Bhagwat has met faith leaders, academics, researchers and other public figures. His programme has included visits to the Shree Swaminarayan Temple in Willesden and a Sikh gurdwara, with a visit to a Jain temple also scheduled as part of his interfaith engagements.

The RSS said more than 300 community organisations and associations were expected to participate in the broader London centenary celebration.

Focus on Social Harmony and Service

The RSS has identified social harmony, family values, environmental responsibility, self-reliance and civic responsibility among its five priorities for its centenary year.

Bhagwat's London address reinforced the organisation's stated emphasis on service and social cohesion. The RSS has described its centenary programme as an opportunity to share its experience of community service and engage with institutions and communities outside India.

The organisation has also highlighted Seva and Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam as important elements of its social outlook.

Bhagwat Praises Younger Generation

During another London interaction, Bhagwat expressed confidence in younger generations, describing them as more honest and more willing to move beyond petty differences.

He said older generations can become cautious because of their experiences, while younger people may be more willing to speak openly and work towards creating a better future.

His comments came as part of the broader London engagement programme and added a generational dimension to his message on social harmony and cooperation.

Broader Message From London

Bhagwat's latest international engagements come at a significant moment for the RSS as it marks its 100th year. The organisation is using the centenary year to expand its international dialogue and highlight its views on service, cultural identity, social cohesion and civilisational values.

His London message centred on the need to emphasise common ground rather than differences, presenting social harmony and mutual respect as important foundations for a cohesive society.

The UK address is expected to remain a significant part of the RSS's centenary outreach, particularly because of the large Indian diaspora and the participation of organisations representing different communities.
