Telangana SIR: Owaisi Alleges BLOs Refusing Enumeration Forms, Seeks Election Commission's Intervention

Hyderabad: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi has alleged that Booth Level Officers (BLOs) in Telangana are refusing to accept enumeration forms during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls on August 9 and 10.

In a representation to the Election Commission of India (ECI), Owaisi claimed that several BLOs had declined to receive completed enumeration forms from voters, causing inconvenience and raising concerns about the smooth conduct of the voter verification exercise.

The AIMIM chief urged the Election Commission to issue immediate directions to election officials to ensure that all eligible voters are able to submit their forms without difficulty. He said the electoral roll revision process should be conducted fairly, transparently and in accordance with the Commission's guidelines.

According to Owaisi, any refusal to accept duly completed forms could potentially affect eligible citizens seeking to verify or update their voter details. He called upon the ECI to investigate the complaints and take corrective measures wherever necessary.

The Special Intensive Revision is carried out periodically by the Election Commission to update electoral rolls by verifying voter details, adding eligible new voters and removing ineligible entries. Booth Level Officers play a key role in collecting forms and assisting voters during the exercise.

As of now, the Election Commission has not issued an official response to Owaisi's allegations. Election authorities are expected to examine the complaints and take appropriate action if any procedural lapses are found.

The issue has added a political dimension to the electoral roll revision exercise in Telangana, with the AIMIM seeking prompt intervention from the poll panel to ensure that the process remains accessible and transparent for all eligible voters.
