New Delhi: Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, on Sunday evening after complaining of breathing difficulty and fever, according to sources.
Manjhi, who serves as the Union Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), was brought to the hospital's emergency department at around 5 pm after his health condition worsened. He was subsequently shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at around 9 pm, sources said.
Doctors Monitor Manjhi's Condition
A team of doctors at AIIMS is closely monitoring the Union minister and conducting the necessary medical examinations to assess his condition.
According to hospital sources, dengue was suspected as a possible cause of his symptoms. However, AIIMS had not issued an official statement confirming the diagnosis at the time of the report.
The minister's breathing difficulty and fever prompted doctors to keep him under close observation in the ICU while medical tests are carried out.
Health Had Earlier Deteriorated in Patna
According to a subsequent report by The Tribune, Manjhi had reportedly been undergoing treatment for viral fever in Patna before being brought to Delhi after his condition deteriorated again. The report said dengue was suspected and that a fall in platelet count had also been reported, although there was no official confirmation from AIIMS.
Manjhi's adviser Danish Rizwan said the Union minister was undergoing treatment at AIIMS and described his condition as stable, while appealing to people not to worry.
Jitan Ram Manjhi's Political Role
Jitan Ram Manjhi, 80, is the Union Minister for MSME and a prominent political leader from Bihar. He is also the founder of the Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular).
His admission to AIIMS comes as the Union government continues its policy and administrative work across various ministries. Further updates on his health are expected as doctors complete the ongoing medical evaluations.
No Official AIIMS Health Bulletin Yet
While sources have provided updates about Manjhi's admission, ICU transfer and suspected dengue, AIIMS had not publicly released detailed information about his medical condition in the initial reports.
The focus remains on the results of the medical tests and his response to treatment. Any confirmation regarding dengue or other underlying causes would have to come from the hospital or his authorised representatives.
As the Union minister remains under medical supervision, supporters and political colleagues have wished him a speedy recovery.
