Yogi Adityanath Accuses SP, Congress of Glorifying Invaders and Creating ‘Identity Crisis’

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath accused the Samajwadi Party and Congress of glorifying foreign invaders instead of honouring Indian historical figures, alleging that this approach contributed to an “identity crisis.” He made the remarks at a programme in Ghazipur, where he also highlighted development and efforts to recognise local historical figures.

Yogi Adityanath Accuses SP, Congress of Glorifying Invaders and Creating ‘Identity Crisis’

Yogi Targets SP and Congress

Yogi Adityanath criticised the Samajwadi Party and Congress, alleging that previous governments gave greater prominence to foreign invaders while neglecting Indian heroes.

He said this approach, in his view, contributed to an “identity crisis” by weakening recognition of India's historical figures and heritage. These are political allegations made by Yogi Adityanath.

Focus on Indian Heroes

Speaking in Ghazipur, the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister said his government was working to restore the importance of historical figures associated with the region and the wider state.

He linked the recognition of historical figures with a broader effort to promote pride in India's heritage.

BJP's Position

The BJP has argued that recognising historical personalities and preserving cultural heritage are important parts of its political agenda.

Yogi has previously made similar arguments while highlighting figures such as Maharaja Suheldev and criticising what he describes as the glorification of historical invaders.

Opposition Perspective

The Congress and Samajwadi Party have not accepted Yogi's characterisation of their historical and political record. The competing interpretations reflect the wider political dispute over history, heritage and identity in Uttar Pradesh.

Political Context

Yogi's remarks come amid continuing political competition in Uttar Pradesh, where questions of historical memory, cultural identity and development frequently feature in political campaigns and public debates.
