Delhi-NCR in a Jam as Delhi-Meerut Expressway Stays Shut for Kanwar Yatris
Ghaziabad: Traffic on NH-9 was disrupted for the second consecutive day on Tuesday as the Delhi-Meerut Expressway (DME) remained closed to regular vehicles amid arrangements for Kanwar Yatris.
Police restricted access to the expressway, allowing Kanwar pilgrims to use the route while regular traffic was diverted. The restrictions caused significant inconvenience to commuters travelling between Ghaziabad, Noida and Delhi.
The traffic disruption came on a working day, adding to the difficulties faced by lakhs of daily commuters. With the DME unavailable to regular vehicles, traffic movement on alternative routes was also affected.
The closure resulted in longer travel times and congestion across several important routes connecting Delhi-NCR. Commuters heading towards Delhi, Noida and Ghaziabad faced delays during the morning rush hour.
The traffic restrictions are part of arrangements made to facilitate the movement of Kanwar Yatris and ensure their safe passage during the Kanwar Yatra.
Commuters have been advised to plan their journeys accordingly and use alternative routes wherever possible.
