Following a fiercely contested election, votes for 293 constituencies will be counted on Monday (May 4, 2026). The Election Commission of India has ordered a repoll for the Falta Assembly seat in South 24 Parganas district on May 21 due to reported electoral malpractices.

The 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections were conducted against the backdrop of a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, which led to a reduction of nearly 90 lakh voters in the state.

As a result, around 6.83 crore electors were eligible to participate in the polls. The election saw an unprecedented turnout, with more than 92 per cent of voters casting their ballots. Vote counting is scheduled to take place at 77 centres across 23 districts. Meanwhile, security has been significantly tightened following concerns raised by the Trinamool Congress over potential irregularities.
