CJP Founder to Return From US, Join June 6 Protest in Delhi
New Delhi: The controversy surrounding the NEET-UG 2026 examination continues to escalate, with viral social movement leader Abhijeet Dipke, founder of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), expected to return from the United States to participate in a major protest in the national capital on June 6.
The demonstration is being organised to demand the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, who has come under sustained criticism following allegations of a paper leak in the NEET-UG 2026 examination. The exam, conducted on May 3, was later cancelled after reports of widespread irregularities emerged, forcing more than 22 lakh students to prepare for a fresh test scheduled on June 21.
The planned protest marks another chapter in what has become one of the biggest education-related controversies in recent years. It also reflects the growing influence of CJP, a movement that began as an online satirical platform before evolving into a nationwide campaign focusing on student issues, unemployment and institutional accountability.
How the NEET Crisis Triggered a National Debate
The National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test, better known as NEET, is India's largest medical entrance examination. Every year, millions of students compete for limited seats in government and private medical colleges.
This year, however, the examination became the centre of controversy after allegations surfaced that question papers had been leaked through organised networks operating across multiple states. Following mounting pressure from opposition parties, student groups and parents, the National Testing Agency (NTA) cancelled the examination.
The Central Bureau of Investigation later took over the probe into the alleged leak. A re-examination was announced for June 21, leaving students facing weeks of uncertainty and additional preparation pressure.
Several student organisations have accused the government of failing to safeguard the integrity of national examinations. Opposition parties have also demanded structural reforms within the NTA.
Rise of the Cockroach Janata Party
The controversy unexpectedly propelled the growth of the Cockroach Janata Party.
The movement, founded by Dipke, gained massive popularity on Instagram and X after posting satirical content targeting political and institutional failures. Within days, CJP's social media presence exploded, attracting millions of followers and generating intense public debate.
What started as internet humour quickly transformed into organised activism.
Last month, Dipke launched an online petition demanding Pradhan's resignation, arguing that students had become victims of a systemic failure rather than isolated misconduct.
In a widely shared video message, he said the education system must be held accountable for the disruption caused to lakhs of aspirants.
"It is time to make the system accountable," Dipke said while urging supporters to back the campaign.
The petition reportedly gathered several lakh signatures within days, reflecting widespread frustration among students and parents.
June 6 Protest Expected to Draw Large Student Participation
Organisers expect significant participation from students, youth groups, education activists and civil society organisations at the June 6 protest in Delhi.
Sources associated with the campaign say Dipke plans to address supporters upon his return from the US. While authorities have not officially commented on crowd estimates, organisers are preparing for a sizeable turnout given the issue's national resonance.
The protest is expected to focus on several demands:
Resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
Greater transparency in national entrance examinations.
Accountability for officials involved in the alleged leak.
Structural reforms within the NTA.
Stronger safeguards against future paper leak incidents.
Student groups argue that the controversy has damaged confidence in India's examination system.
Political Pressure Continues to Mount
The demand for Pradhan's resignation is no longer limited to CJP.
In recent weeks, the Indian Youth Congress, NSUI and several opposition leaders have organised demonstrations in Delhi and other cities seeking accountability over the examination fiasco. Protesters have accused the government of failing to protect the interests of students.
Congress leaders have also called for the dissolution or restructuring of the NTA and demanded an independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the alleged leak.
The government, meanwhile, has maintained that agencies are taking appropriate action and that the re-examination will be conducted under enhanced security measures.
Education Ministry officials have repeatedly stated that strict action will be taken against anyone found responsible for compromising the examination process.
Impact on Students Across India
The biggest impact of the controversy has been felt by students.
For lakhs of aspirants, the cancellation of the examination meant restarting months of preparation while dealing with uncertainty over admissions and counselling schedules.
In states such as West Bengal, where thousands of students appear for NEET every year, coaching institutes reported heightened anxiety among candidates after the cancellation announcement.
Education experts warn that repeated examination controversies risk undermining trust in competitive recruitment and admission systems.
"Students invest years preparing for these examinations. Any compromise in credibility affects not just one batch but public confidence in the entire process," said education analyst Rakesh Sen.
Parents have also expressed concerns about the mental health impact on candidates already dealing with intense academic pressure.
Government Yet to Respond to Protest Call
As of Monday evening, there was no official response from the Education Ministry regarding Dipke's proposed participation in the June 6 protest.
Officials have instead focused on preparations for the June 21 re-examination and ongoing investigations into the alleged paper leak network.
Political observers believe the Delhi demonstration could become a significant test of public sentiment surrounding the controversy.
If turnout is substantial, pressure on the government may intensify ahead of the re-exam.
What Happens Next
The immediate focus remains on two developments: the June 6 protest in Delhi and the June 21 NEET re-examination.
Students, parents and educators will be watching closely to see whether the investigation leads to further arrests or administrative action. At the same time, organisers hope the protest will keep attention on demands for accountability within India's examination system.
For millions of aspirants awaiting a fresh opportunity to secure a medical seat, the larger question remains unchanged: whether confidence in the country's most important entrance examination can be restored.
