CJP Parliament march violence: Delhi Police register 4 cases, 2 more FIRs to follow

Delhi Police have registered four FIRs in connection with the violence that erupted during the Citizens for Justice and Peace (CJP)-led 'Chalo Sansad' march, with officials confirming that two more cases are expected to be filed as the investigation progresses.

The development comes after clashes between protesters and security personnel during the march towards Parliament, which witnessed heavy deployment of police, barricading, detentions and disruption to traffic in central Delhi.

Four FIRs registered

According to Delhi Police, the cases have been registered over incidents of violence, damage to public property, obstruction of public servants and other alleged offences committed during the protest.

Officials said evidence, including CCTV footage, drone recordings and videos circulating on social media, is being examined to identify those involved in the disturbances.

Police added that two additional FIRs would be registered after further scrutiny of complaints and available evidence.

Protest turned tense

The CJP-organised march was held in support of climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, who was shifted from Jantar Mantar to VMMC & Safdarjung Hospital following concerns over his health after a prolonged hunger strike.

As protesters attempted to move towards Parliament, security personnel stopped them at multiple barricades, leading to confrontations in several locations.

Some demonstrators alleged that police used force, including lathi charges and tear gas, while authorities maintained that only the minimum necessary force was used to prevent breaches of security and maintain public order.

Investigation underway

Delhi Police said teams are reviewing digital evidence and witness statements to establish individual roles in the violence.

Officials indicated that more notices and summons could be issued as the investigation advances and that legal action would be taken against those found responsible for violating the law.

No official information has yet been released on the total number of people who may face prosecution.

Political row deepens

The police action has intensified the political confrontation between the ruling NDA and Opposition parties.

Opposition leaders have criticised the handling of the protest, alleging suppression of peaceful dissent and demanding accountability for the use of force against demonstrators.

The government, however, has defended the police response, saying security measures were essential to protect Parliament and maintain law and order in the national capital.

With investigations continuing and additional FIRs expected, the fallout from the CJP's Parliament march is likely to remain a major political issue in the coming days.
