PM Modi Hails Jammu and Kashmir's Transformation on Seventh Anniversary of Article 370 Abrogation

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday highlighted what he described as the transformation of Jammu and Kashmir on the seventh anniversary of the abrogation of Article 370, stating that the Union Territory has made remarkable progress in development, infrastructure and public welfare.

In a message marking the occasion, the Prime Minister said the decision taken on August 5, 2019, had opened new avenues for growth and integration. He asserted that Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed improvements across multiple sectors, including connectivity, tourism, education, healthcare, investment and employment opportunities.

Modi said the region is moving forward with renewed confidence and that government initiatives have accelerated infrastructure projects while strengthening grassroots democracy through local governance institutions.

The Prime Minister also pointed to the increase in tourism, expansion of road and rail connectivity, and implementation of welfare schemes as indicators of the region's development since the constitutional changes.

The BJP has consistently maintained that the abrogation of Article 370 strengthened national integration and enabled the full implementation of Central laws and welfare programmes in Jammu and Kashmir. Party leaders marked the anniversary by highlighting developmental achievements and reiterating their commitment to the region's progress.

The anniversary, however, also witnessed contrasting political responses. Several regional parties in Jammu and Kashmir observed the day as a "Black Day", demanding the restoration of statehood and constitutional safeguards while criticising the 2019 decision.

The Centre has repeatedly stated that restoring statehood to Jammu and Kashmir remains a commitment and will be undertaken at an appropriate time, while maintaining that peace, development and democratic governance remain its priorities.

The seventh anniversary of the Article 370 abrogation once again underscored the differing political narratives surrounding one of the most significant constitutional decisions in recent Indian history.
