New Delhi: Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday alleged that student protesters continue to face harassment following the recent police action, accusing the Centre of attempting to suppress democratic voices.

Addressing the media, Rahul Gandhi claimed that several students who participated in the protests are still facing pressure and intimidation. He urged the government to stop what he described as harassment of young people exercising their democratic rights.

The Congress leader also criticised Union Home Minister Amit Shah, alleging that the Centre was using law enforcement agencies to target students instead of addressing their concerns. He called for accountability over the police action and demanded that those responsible be held answerable.

Rahul Gandhi said students should be encouraged to express their views peacefully and that any allegations of excessive police action must be examined impartially. He reiterated that democratic institutions must protect the right to peaceful protest.

The remarks come amid an ongoing political confrontation between the Congress and the BJP during the Monsoon Session of Parliament. The Opposition has repeatedly raised the issue of police action against student protesters inside and outside Parliament, demanding a statement from the Union government.

The BJP has rejected the allegations, maintaining that law enforcement agencies acted in accordance with established legal procedures to maintain public order. Government leaders have accused the Opposition of politicising the issue for political purposes.

The controversy has led to repeated disruptions in Parliament, with Opposition parties demanding discussions on the matter while the government has urged lawmakers to allow normal legislative business to continue.

As political exchanges continue over the issue, the debate over the handling of student protests is expected to remain a key flashpoint during the ongoing Parliament session.
