Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk delivered an emotional message to supporters just hours before Delhi Police removed him from his hunger strike site at Jantar Mantar and shifted him to a hospital amid growing concerns over his health.

In a video shared before the police action, Wangchuk acknowledged the physical toll of his prolonged fast but insisted that his determination remained unshaken.

Despite appearing visibly weak, he said he was "mentally alert" and remained committed to the objectives of the protest, urging supporters to continue the movement peacefully.

'My body is weak, but my resolve is not'

In his final public message before being taken away, Wangchuk admitted that his health had deteriorated after nearly three weeks of fasting.

However, he maintained that the agitation was driven by principles larger than any individual and appealed to supporters to remain calm and continue pursuing their demands through peaceful and democratic means.

Police shift Wangchuk to hospital

In the early hours of Saturday, Delhi Police carried out a pre-planned operation to remove Wangchuk from the protest site and transfer him to VMMC & Safdarjung Hospital.

Police said the decision was taken following medical advice and in compliance with directions aimed at protecting his health after 20 days of fasting. Hospital authorities later said Wangchuk was stable but required continuous medical monitoring.

Protesters allege forceful removal

Supporters and organisers criticised the operation, alleging that police used plainclothes personnel and white sheets to move Wangchuk through the crowd before dawn. The incident triggered protests at Jantar Mantar, where activists accused the authorities of suppressing peaceful dissent.

The police have maintained that the intervention was carried out to ensure Wangchuk received urgent medical care as his condition worsened.

Political reactions intensify

The activist's removal sparked strong reactions from opposition leaders, student groups and civil society organisations, many of whom questioned the timing and manner of the police action.

Meanwhile, Wangchuk's supporters have vowed to continue the agitation. CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke has announced an indefinite hunger strike in solidarity, while several political leaders have called for dialogue instead of coercive measures.
