BJP Accuses Rahul Gandhi of 'Petty Politics' Over Prayagraj Student Event Row

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday launched a sharp attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of indulging in "petty politics" over the controversy surrounding a student event in Prayagraj.

Addressing the media, BJP leaders alleged that Rahul Gandhi was attempting to create a political controversy instead of participating in parliamentary discussions. The ruling party claimed that the Congress leader was avoiding debate inside Parliament while raising the issue outside the House.

The BJP said Parliament remains the appropriate forum for discussing matters of public importance and criticised the Congress for what it described as attempts to politicise the Prayagraj incident.

The remarks came after Rahul Gandhi raised concerns over the alleged police action and events related to a student programme in Prayagraj. The Congress has accused the authorities of acting unfairly and has sought accountability from the government.

Responding to these allegations, BJP leaders maintained that the Congress was misrepresenting the facts and attempting to gain political mileage. They asserted that the government had nothing to hide and was prepared to discuss issues in Parliament through established procedures.

The exchange has further intensified the political confrontation between the BJP and the Congress during the ongoing Monsoon Session, where several issues have led to repeated disruptions and sharp verbal exchanges between the ruling alliance and the Opposition.

The Congress, meanwhile, has continued to criticise the government over various issues, including law and order, governance and the handling of protests, while the BJP has accused the Opposition of disrupting parliamentary proceedings instead of participating in debates.

The latest war of words reflects the continuing political tensions between the two parties as Parliament remains the focal point of several high-profile political disputes.
