PM Modi advises Rajya Sabha MPs to stay away from lobbyists during breakfast interaction

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday held a breakfast meeting with BJP members of the Rajya Sabha, where he urged lawmakers to stay connected with the people and avoid the influence of lobbyists.

The interaction, held as part of the BJP's outreach with its parliamentary party, focused on the responsibilities of MPs, ethical public life and the importance of maintaining transparency while discharging their duties.

'Stay away from lobbyists'

During the meeting, Modi cautioned MPs against coming under the influence of lobbyists and special interest groups, stressing that elected representatives must always place public interest above all else.

He advised members to remain accessible to citizens, listen to grassroots concerns and ensure that their work in Parliament reflects the aspirations of the people.

According to party sources, the Prime Minister underscored the importance of integrity, accountability and disciplined conduct in public life.

Focus on public service

Modi is also said to have encouraged MPs to spend more time in their constituencies and states, engage regularly with local communities and monitor the implementation of government welfare schemes.

He reportedly emphasised that lawmakers should communicate the Centre's policies effectively while also bringing local issues to the attention of the government.

The Prime Minister highlighted that public trust is earned through consistent engagement and responsive governance.

Parliamentary strategy discussed

The breakfast meeting also included discussions on the ongoing Parliament session and the party's legislative priorities.

Senior BJP leaders and Rajya Sabha MPs exchanged views on key bills, parliamentary debates and coordination within the party to ensure effective participation during the session.

Such meetings are regularly organised by the BJP leadership to review parliamentary performance and strengthen coordination between the government and party legislators.

Strengthening organisational discipline

Political observers view the Prime Minister's remarks as part of the BJP's continued emphasis on organisational discipline and ethical conduct among its elected representatives.

The message to avoid lobbyists comes amid increasing public scrutiny over transparency, policymaking and the role of interest groups in influencing governance.

The interaction concluded with the Prime Minister encouraging MPs to continue working with dedication and uphold the highest standards of public service.
